OBJ Import for AutoCAD is a Wavefront (.obj) file import plug-in for AutoCAD®. This plug-in gives AutoCAD the ability to import geometric data from ASCII and Binary OBJ files. OBJ Import for AutoCAD reads polygon mesh data stored in OBJ files and imports it into AutoCAD. A polygon mesh in an OBJ file is comprised of a set of triangular/quad faces. OBJ Import for AutoCAD recreates the polygon meshes in an OBJ file inside the active AutoCAD drawing. The model can be recreated as set of points, lines, polylines, 3D faces or a polyface mesh. OBJ Import for AutoCAD is very easy to use. Once installed, it must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment. There are simple instructions for this in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new commands to AutoCAD's existing commands and a new submenu called "OBJImport" to the AutoCAD menu containing these newly added commands. The DXF File Format The AutoCAD DXF (Drawing Interchange Format, or Drawing Exchange Format) is a CAD data file format, developed by Autodesk as their solution for enabling data interoperability between AutoCAD and other programs. DXF was originally introduced in December 1982 as part of AutoCAD 1.0, and was intended to provide an exact representation of the data in the AutoCAD native file format, DWG (Drawing), for which Autodesk didn't (and doesn't) publish specifications. DXF is probably one of the most widely supported vector formats in the world today. DXF is rich in features, including: support for 3D objects, curves, text, associative dimensioning, etc. Although DXF was developed to represent the data used in a CAD program, it is used by many programs as a "least common denominator".

14. Mesh To Solid 3.0 (Graphics:CAD) Size: 1605 kb, Price: $195

Mesh To Solid is a software to convert a mesh into a solid. A mesh is a set of vertices connected by edges that describe triangular or quadrilateral faces. These faces describe the shape of the object that the mesh describes. Meshes are often used to describe closed solid or open surface objects. However, general solid modeling software do not have methods to manipulate or modify mesh objects. Solid modeling operations such as boolean operations (add, subtract, intersect), extrude, offset, fillet, chamfer, rib, draft, shell, hollow, etc. are possible only with solid or surface objects. Moreover, there is no way to convert a mesh into a solid so that the solid modeling operations can be carried out on it. Mesh To Solid solves this problem by giving you the ability to convert a mesh to a solid. Mesh To Solid can read mesh objects from the following file formats: Stereolithography files (*.stl) Wavefront files (*.obj) OpenNURBS files (*.3dm) Mesh To Solid saves solid data in the following file formats: ACIS files (*.sat) OpenNURBS files (*.3dm) Mesh To Solid is designed to be extremely user friendly and easy to understand. Its as easy as opening a mesh file using the Open command and saving it as a solid using the Save As command.
